Discordia
Last week I played Concordia with the Salsa expansion for the second time. I had a pretty bad experience with this game the first time I played it, pre-Covid, and I always wanted to try it again. It’s a game that is held in high regard by many and definitely deserved a second chance.

Imperial 2030
Another week and another 4 hour game. This time it was Imperial 2030 by Mac Gerdts, who is also responsible for Concordia; a game in the top 30 on BGG. Imperial 2030 pits you as investors controlling six superpowers from behind the scenes.
Eclipsed
I played a 3 player game of Eclipse: Second Dawn for the Galaxy last night. It took just over 4 hours to get to the end, but despite this the game definitely left me wanting more, in a good way.

Roasted
Trying some new coffee beans from a small local roasters in Wicklow, Never a Days Trouble.
Rinn
Mausritter is an RPG that came onto my radar about 3 years ago. One upside to COVID was discovering the world of OSR games, which really fit my own approach to play style.
Bargain Quest
I recently played my second game of Bargain Quest, where players take on the role of merchants trying to ply their adventuring wares onto plucky heroes attempting to slay a nearby menace.
Rooted
This week I managed to play my second game of Root, an asymmetric board game designed by Cole Wehrle and beautifully illustrated by Kyle Ferrin.
D&D
My first foray into role playing games was Fighting Fantasy Role-play. Naturally with Steve Jackson as the author it is a beautifully solid and entertaining book that is the perfect intro into the RPG world for young minds.
The Horror
In my quest for a simple RPG that focused less on mechanics and more on story I stumbled across Cthulhu Dark.
Strange
Another VFX experiment in After Effects with (the not so enthusiastic) Alex. Aiming for a Dr. Strange portal effect with this one.
Perambulation
Below is a quick walk cycle I created while doing Fraser Davidson’s excellent Skillshare course.
Boarderlands
As of January this year I became an official (t-shirt owning) member of The Last Chancers gaming club.
Action
I've been messing around with VFX in After Effects recently and threw together some Star Wars themed videos of my daughter.
Mr Data
Nicholas Felton has been publishing annual reports since 2012, typically based on his life for that year. It was from here I became interested in the idea of the quantified self.
Double Feature
I have a real soft spot for retro science fiction artwork. The aspiration of what we thought the future might be is fascinating.
Magick Mike
I just finished reading and listening to Mike Monteiro’s first book Design is a Job (which is shit coloured), published by A Book Apart. Great read for anyone involved in design; a proper smack in the chops.

This is a post in response to the loss of the Meyer family’s six year old daughter Rebecca and Jeffrey Zeldman’s blog post asking us to do the most ‘heartbreakingly inadequate’ thing in memory of Rebecca. For today, Thursday 12th of June 2014, my site will be going purple.

Re:Kindle
Print is dead. Well, it isn’t, and may well never die, but the rise and rise of e-readers troubles me somewhat. If only for the fostering of imagination in our little ‘uns.
Doctored
With a little bit of extra free-time over Christmas I managed to crack the Jekyll nut.
Beastly
As a father to a 4 year old girl I feel it is my duty to, not necessarily discourage dolls and pink, but to encourage dragons, pirates and general adventure.
Malfunction
Unfortunately my Textpattern driven website collapsed over the last week or two. While trying to implement some changes the database decided to give up the ghost.
